Peter Bialobrzeski

Biography

Peter Bialobrzeski (*1961, Wolfsburg, Germany) is famous for his investigations of urban space and is regarded as one of the most distinguished voices in contemporary photography coming out of Germany today. He studied Politics and Sociology before he became a photographer for a local paper in his native town of Wolfsburg/Germany. He travelled extensivly in Asia before he went to study photography and design at the Folkwangschule Essen and the London College of Printing. His work has been exhibited extensively in Europe, the US, Asia, Africa and Australia. He received numerous awards including the prestigious World Press Photo Award 2003 and 2010. Peter Bialobrzeski has been a visiting professor for photojournalism at the University of Essen in 1998/99. Since 2002 he is a regular professor for photography at the University of the Arts in Bremen/Germany. In 2012 Peter Bialobrzeski was honored with the Dr. Erich Salomon Award by the German Society of Photography (DGPh). He lives and works in Hamburg.

Peter Bialobrzeski (*1961, Wolfsburg, Deutschland) ist berühmt für seine Untersuchungen des urbanen Raums und gilt heute als eine der wichtigsten Stimmen in der zeitgenössischen Fotografie aus Deutschland. Er studierte Politik und Soziologie, bevor er in seiner Heimatstadt Wolfsburg Fotograf für eine Lokalzeitung wurde. Er reiste intensiv in Asien bevor er Fotografie und Design an der Folkwangschule Essen und am London College of Printing studierte. Seine Arbeiten wurden in Europa, USA, Asien, Afrika und Australien intensiv ausgestellt. Er gewann mehrere Preise, darunter den prestigeträchtigen World Press Photo Award 2003 und 2010. Peter Bialobrzeski war 1998/99 Gastprofessor für Fotojournalismus an der Universität Essen. Seit 2002 ist Peter Professor für Fotografie an der Universität der Künste in Bremen. 2012 wurde Peter Bialobrzeski mit dem Dr. Erich Salomon Preis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) ausgezeichnet. Er lebt und arbeitet in Hamburg.
