Bernhard Fuchs

Biography

Photographer Bernhard Fuchs (*1971, Haslach, Austria) was one of the youngest students of Bernd Becher at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Fuchs lives in Düsseldorf since then, but works almost exclusively in the region of his origin, the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria. This tension between urbanity and rural life gives his work a special charm: An emotionality that appears reservedly, a visual language of the utmost formal control. Fuchs first became known in the mid-1990ies as a photographer of people in their native, rural surroundings, but he has since mostly been working directly in front of the landscape, exploring it’s different aspects.
